The municipality of Ilida (former municipality of Amaliada) is the first in area (256,988 sq.) and the second in population (32,090 inhabitants), according to the 2001 census, municipality of the Prefecture of Ilia.
In terms of population, either as a Kapodistrian municipality or as a city, Amaliada occupies the 4th place in the Region of Western Greece after Patras, Agrinio and Pyrgos.
According to the 2001 census, Amaliada recorded one of the largest population increases, among the municipalities of the country, thus ranking among the 40 largest municipalities and the 5 largest, which are not county capitals.
